Brazen Fox- White Plains

Long  time no see, our long lost frickle fans.  We know an update is long overdue, and we apologize for making you wait.  But fear no longer, here is our latest post about some damn fine frickles.

brazen fox

While strolling down Mamaroneck Ave. in White Plains, some outdoor tables set up with Heinz Ketchup and Sriracha sauce caught our eyes right away.  First delicious condiments, then seeing frickles on the menu, they didn’t have to try much harder to lure us in to their establishment.  Once inside we were lead to a table in the back, which was not too bad, except for the overwhelmingly loud music.  We enjoyed some ice cold margaritas served in mason jars, while we waited for our fried pickles.

frickles

Alas! Our Frickles have arrived! They were steamin’ hot and ready for our bellies! Or was it that our bellies were ready for them?

Texture:

They were yummy and crunchy, but not TOO crunchy.  They were thin and still a little soft, is crunchy and soft possible at the same time? I suppose today it is.

Serving Size:

Huge Ass Dill = 5 (highest)

Seemed to be close to 25 frickles? Is it even possible!? We were so stuffed we couldn’t even finish all of them ( I know, I know….)

Condiment Selection:

Stem

Pickle Stem = 1 (lowest)

I hate to say it, but the condiment was very unsatisfying.  Although the menu read horseradish and ranch, the 1 condiment served, tasted like a boring and bland ranch, nothing special.  For those who know us, also know we love our condiments, so were not very happy about this option. Luckily, we did manage to get our hands on some ketchup and sriracha sauce to make up for the sad ranch.

Wait time was very short and we were pleasantly surprised when the fricks popped up at our table so quickly!

Our waitress was…. mehhh.  She wasn’t very friendly, but also wasn’t rude. She didn’t do anything to impress us, but neither did she do anything to make us talk smack.  Just an overall meh experience.

Price:

$7.00, for 25 chips, was certainly a good price.  It was pretty average range for the frickles we have seen around, but we also got a lot more for our money at the fox.

Overall:

The frickles were definitly yummmy, but didn’t blow us out of the water.  They had a good texture, but were a bit too salty for both the frickle chicks, as well as the frickle guest that joined along for this visit.  Overall, we did enjoy our frickle experience and the frickles are definitely worth checking out and enjoying if you’re in the neighborhood, and enjoy a good crunchy bite.

Fricklers and Staches

So here it goes; our most overdue post yet!  Way back in November the Frickle Chicks went to the best event in the world, yes I said it, the WORLD; The 14th Annual International PICKLE FESTIVAL!  Everywhere you turn there are just more and more pickles.  Spicy pickles, sweet pickles, sour pickles, baby pickles, monster pickles, pickle flavored snow-cone (p.s. never again), human pickles, and most importantly FRIED PICKLES!  The festival has  all sorts of contests, yummy eats, live music and dancing,  and vendors selling all types of wonderful things.  Overall, Pickle Festival was a great success!  Spacey Tracy was the woman to meet our every frickle need. And oh boy did she!

We had been hearing about Spacey Tracey forever, and now we can finally experience the happiness.

So lets get down to some pickle ratings:

Muy delicioso! The frickles had a crunchy texture outside, with a fluffy yet cooked layer inside.

About 8-10 extremely large pickle chips per serving.

There were a few condiment options, including a horseradish-ranch(?) sauce, along with a few other options which we opted out of.

There were a few issues when we got to the front of the line, but considering it was a festival filled with hundreds of people, we understood having to wait a few extra minutes.

Spacey Tracy was friendly and super nice.  Not to mention she had some killer pickle earings!

Affordable and fair for the size of the huge-ass pickle chips.  They were also veryyyyyy filling; we were able to share one serving among 2 or 3 people.

Bex really loved them. I mean really REALLY loved these fried pickles! They are certainly on her list of top 3 best frickles.  Lyss liked the fricks and appreciated the frickle talent which was exhibited, but was not a huge fan of the flavor of the actual pickle itself.

Pickle Festival 2012. Never forget.

BLT Burger

Good morning Fricklers! You might be asking yourself, “Why on Earth is this post being pressed before 9am when the FrickleChicks typically post around 11pm or so?! I thought these bitches were vampires.”  And we’ve got a good answer for you. This week we’ve teamed up with the stunners from BurgerWeekly.com  to bring you a joint frickle-hamburger review from BLT Burger on 6th Avenue. Not only are the boys from BurgerWeekly.com  a pair of real charmers, they also have their act together and get things done during daylight hours.

Brad and Matt of BurgerWeekly.com

BurgerWeekly.com is written by Brad and Matt from NYC. As official “Burgermeisters of the evening, we had the pleasure of joining in on a “Burger Adventure” (See Burgermeister Dictionary.) And while the entree of the night was juicy and delicious, our attention was stolen by the delectable appetizer of mouthwatering frickles. We may have even converted the Burgermeisters to a life of fried pickles. They definitely seemed enamored at the time.

The Frickle Dance of Love

Texture:         Whole Pickle = 4

These babies where super crispy from the tempura batter, but not chewy or crunchy. It was like they were inside of a fragile tempura shell. Super yummy, but the only problem was the excessive amount of grease dripping off each one.

Serving Size:      Whole Pickle = 4

8 large pieces.

Condiment Selection:    Pickle Spear = 3

The ranch-chili paprika dipping sauce was pretty stellar, but that was the only offering other than ketchup.

Wait Time:      Whole Pickle = 4

Moderate.  The wait time was pretty average, not too quick and not too long.

Waitress Nicole was awesome. She kept our glasses full, brought out our special requests for ketchup and napkins ASAP, and was super friendly without being annoyingly chipper.

Westchester Burger Co.

Standard

Located at: 106 Westchester Avenue, White Plains, NY 10601

Westchester Burger Co. is located right across from The Westchester Mall in White Plains, and a great option for dinner when you are starving after a day of shopping, yet desperate to leave the mall. It is a casual atmosphere with spacious seating, as well as a full bar against the back wall. Slightly reminiscent of Pizzeria Uno’s, it kind of felt like a chain restaurant, yet for some reason we really enjoyed it anyway. The fried pickles were to die for… they truly made our top 5 list. And of course, the best part, the condiment, was amazing. A mayo-based paprika/pickle remoulade with a hint of cayenne pepper. At our next cooking extravaganza we can guarantee we will be hijacking this little trick and putting chopped pickles into all of the sauces!

Pickle chunks in the sauce- nice touch!

Texture:   Huge Ass Pickle   Huge Ass Pickle = 5 (highest)

These frickles had the perfect consistency. The outside was perfectly crispy and the inside had a very light layer of doughy breading. They were similar to Go Burger’s frickles, only less cakey. Love love love.

Serving Size:      Whole Pickle = 4

12 generously sized peices.

Condiment Selection:        Whole Pickle = 4

There was ketchup and mustard on the table, and the frickles came with an AWESOME paprika/pickle remoulade, made with a mayo base and real live chunks of pickle.

Wait Time:      Whole Pickle = 4

Moderate.  The wait time was pretty average, not too quick and not too long.

Our lovely Irish waitress was friendly, but not overly-perky.

We will definitely return to Westchester Burger Co. for fried pickes! One of our faves!

Buffalo Wild Wings- White Plains

Standard

Fried pickle cheers!

Have any of you ever been to the Buffalo Wild Wings in White Plains? It’s so cool, it’s in a bank! The architecture of the building is gorgeous both inside and out, and while I’d rather see that kind of facility turned into a theater or artistic venue, getting served fried pickles from the kitchen (which is inside the renovated vault) is pretty freaking cool.

Buffalo Wild Wings is notorious for their wide array of condiments and hot sauces, so obviously, we were excited before we even walked in the door. As all of our adoring frickle fans know (or as Lady Gaga calls them, little fried monsters) for us, condiments can make or break the overall experience. This time, the condiments were the saving grace of our dining experience, as the fried pickles left much to be desired. The biggest problem for us was the cornmeal-batter. Neither of us are fans of cornmeal on anything to begin with, and with the bulk of the batter made from cornmeal/hundreds of miniature rock-like substances, we were more excited about the variety of 20 sauces and seasonings than our actual dish.

18 golden pucks of cornmealy glory

Texture:         Pickle Chip = 2

We know some people love it, but we thought there was way too much cornmeal. They were also extremely salty, but the creamy condiments balanced that out.

20 various sauces and seasonings, as well as Southwest Chipotle Ranch that came with the frickles.

Our waiter was headed for a 4 until he left us waiting 20 minutes for the check! Ugh. Sorry buddy, down to a 3.

The Peekskill Brewery

Standard

Located at: 55 Hudson Avenue Peekskill, NY 10566

The Peekskill Brewery, located right across from the Peekskill train station on the Hudson River, is a frickle spot we have been trying to get to for quite some time. When we heard frickles were added to the menu, we knew we had to try them, but wanted to give the chefs some time to perfect their recipe and they came pretty close! The menu item is served as half fried pickles and half fried jalapenos, each coated in a delicious tempura batter that we thought slightly resembled fried dough. The chef was nice enough to give us a complimentary ‘Pot of Pickles’ which consisted of pickled seasonal veggies (cauliflower, carrots, celery, baby pickles, golden beets, and onions), toast and sea salt butter.  It was very unique and delicious! (This frickle gig has really been paying off for us lately 😉    !)

Our huge ass serving of frickles!

Texture:      Whole Pickle = 4

Crunchy and crispy tempura breading. These frickles were delicious and full of crispy goodness, but we thought that the pickle slices were too thin and should have been a bit thicker so that they wouldn’t get lost in the taste of the breading.

Serving Size:   Huge Ass Pickle   Huge Ass Pickle = 5 (highest)

Amillion and one pieces, including jalapeno slices.  An overflowing bowl full of crispy fried love.

Condiment Selection:    Pickle Spear = 3

Homemade Ranch-Parmesan Garlic dressing- YUM! (One of the best ranch dressings I’ve ever had!)  But… as we are both condiment lovers, we were a little upset that no other condiments were offered.

Wait Time:      Whole Pickle = 4

Moderate.  The wait time was pretty average, not too quick and not too long.

Service:    Huge Ass Pickle   Huge Ass Pickle = 5 (highest)

Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful.  Besides the fact that the chef gave us a complimentary ‘Pot of Pickles’ which was delicious, he also made an appearance at the table to check up on how our food and our frickles were treating us! Great service!

Price:       Pickle Spear = 3

$6.00 They were great quality and great serving size, but seemed a little pricey in comparison to our other frickle adventures.

Overall:     Whole Pickle = 4

We would definitely go back to the Peekskill Brewery for some frickles and jalapenos, as well as to enjoy one of the many handcrafted beers.

Lyss and guest-star Stroker, frickling their lives away.
