Let me set the scene: sunshine, beach umbrellas, flip flops, and a handwritten sandwich board reading, “deep fried dill pickles” in tiny writing. What are the chances that Lyss and Bex would find frickles in one of the only four restaurants in sleepy downtown Rockport? I guess fried pickles just tend to follow us these days, (they like to feel wanted and know where they belong.) When Lyss and Bex headed up north to Rockport for a long weekend in the sun and wound up with three days of rain, we found a deep-fried glimmer of hope at Ellen’s Harborside Restaurant. The whiteboard of specials was propped outside the entrance, and we zeroed in on the appetizer of the week. Turns out, Rockport isn’t so bad, even in the rain.
These frickles were soaked in a jalapeno brine which we LOVED! They were beer battered, and we are happy to report that the breading stayed put after we took a bite. We both really liked them, but agreed that there was just something missing that we couldn’t put our finger on.
5 medium sized spears.
Sweet chili dipping sauce was served, and although we both love it with Chinese food or french fries, it totally clashed with the frickles.
We had to wait a while for a table and ended up giving in and sitting at the counter, but we put our frickle order in ASAP, and they were served in about 10 minutes.
5 pieces for $6.99. Pretty steep.
